Asia

Natacha spent her childhood surrounded by objects from Asia. She recalls the purity of Bi, symbols of the sky and the universe, of the finesse of Tsuba, a sword-keeper, of the simplicity of Japanese stoneware, of the beauty of kimonos. Chinese Bi and japanese TsubasDiscover the drawing Bi

As a young girl, she takes up calligraphy, sketches, works with Oriental implements: Japanese papers, inks, black ink. She discovers Chinese civilization through a great number of books, more particularly Pearl Buck’s work. Natacha remains very close to Oriental art. Japanese kimonosStrangely, her work evokes Asia. Somewhere she feels at home, even though she’s never been. “ I feel that in China or Japan everything is carefully thought out, aesthetic. The materials are always noble. I probably will never live there.”

Colors

Natacha lives with colors, dreams with colors. They are fundamental to her existence, just as they are to her art. Kachmir, Amasya, Ahvaz, BamSend the Amasya eCard

“Color is without a doubt the most important thing to me. They make me quiver,” she explains. Blues, lavender or violas make her feel at ease. The blue of Japanese stoneware touches her. The red of a Chinese lacquer fascinates her. Her eye sensitive to the change in colors according to matter, material. More than color, it is the association of shades, which literally transports her.
“Colors remind me of countries, continents. They set the journey’s pace.” As such, blues and greens lead her to imagine a journey through Asia Minor. As do her artworks, which take us to Kachmir, Ahvaz, Amasya or Bam...

Imagination

Natacha’s imagination is like a volcano. She’s constantly bubbling with irregular irruptions. She sometimes keeps her imagination at bay, feeding it with the observations from the imaginary world full of colors, sensations and emotions. Or, on the contrary in excess, a fiery display of ideas.

In a haberdashery, she imagines a hundred ways of exploiting multi-colored string; facing a dress, she contemplates how to transform it; an association of colors brings to mind a drawing. Her daily life is a constant host of ideas, of things to create.   Mark Rothko et Zao Wou KiBut far from living in an imaginary world, she needs reality, archiving in a part of her mind all the things she’s seen, the moments she experienced, the discoveries, encounters, emotions.

Her work naturally finds its place within abstract art. “ I have a lot of admiration for some figurative painters, but I find impossible to work figuratively. It cannot transcribe everything I want to express. My imagination is too full.”

Drawing

Drawing has always been Natacha’s mode of expression. At a young age, and already secretive, drawing is how she expresses herself. Travelling too. Natacha’s approach to drawing is more Oriental.

Nu de Femme
She doesn’t make the distinction between painting and drawing. She has never started artworks with sketches or drafts. She can work a long time on a drawing. “ It’s either good or bad. That’s it”.

Art

Objects, sculptures, paintings, books... Natacha feel she exists through her discoveries and artistic encounters. Fabergé egg and japanese sandstoneFigurative or non-figurative movements, Oriental or European art, the richness of these different cultures feed her imagination and inspire her work. Bysantine bronze crossesShe sees herself as from somewhere else: forever avid and curious of reading, visual sensations, discovering known or unknown artists. “I can’t live without art. It’s the same as with color,” she explains. For her, Art cannot be separated from Man.

Paul Klee

Natacha was introduced to Paul Klee at a young age, when abstract art already captivates and inhabits her. The elegance and finesse of the painter-poet’s work fascinates her: “
He’s a major artist,” she states. “ Color posses me”, wrote Paul Klee in his journals. Just like it possesses Natacha.

Imparting

Natacha isn’t a self-centered artist. Sharing is valuable to her. She sees her work as a way of giving to others. She regards this as an essential part of being an artist. Her work is to transmit her stories, her emotions, her sensitivity... DrawingsDiscover the Ayavi card

“ I need my work to be experienced, appreciated or disliked. Either way, it calls for an exchange”, she explains. “ My aim is to offer a happy interlude.”

Jigsaw Puzzle

« I’ve always done jigsaw puzzles. For a long time it was my visuals gymnastics, my very own scales.”
As a child, Natacha enjoys beautiful, brightly colored, often complicated jigsaw puzzles. Sometimes by artists, such as the puzzle by Jackson Pollock or this limited edition Folon.

As an adult, she has sometimes offered them as gifts. “ For a long time, I’ve dreamt of using my artworks for puzzles”. She’s finally done it. Her artworks can now be found as elegant wooden puzzles.

Stefan Zweig

One of her favorite authors, Stefan Zweig holds an important place in her heart. Natacha loves everything to do with him. Short stories, novels, biographies...

A real attachment for the author. She particularly appreciates the tempo of his writing, which she finds surprising, the fluidity of his text, the finesse of his descriptions, the perception of an era.

Confusion of feelings, Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a Woman, Fear, Letter from an unknown woman are all short stories from which she can recite whole passages, remember the description of a character’s gestures.

As someone who enjoys travelling through books, she is touched by the talented biographer that is Stephan Zweig. By the way he transmits the way moments are lived, giving the impression of being part of History. “Fouché is grand, Zweig makes him almost sympathetic, at least fascinating.”

World map

Through world maps, you can follow Natacha on her imaginary travels. Each of her drawings is named after a town, a river, a region.

Her adventures take her more often to certain parts of the world: Russia, Asia, Asia Minor... She invites us to follow her from Surat in India to Paldiski on the Baltic Sea, via Ampara in Sri Lanka. But she also stops off in Vienna or Farranagow in Ireland.

Sensitive to words and their sonority, she chooses place names that inspire her, transport her. She draws, tells a story. “I don’t want to actually see the places. The vision could shatter my dream.” Her work sketches a sphere far from the contemporary world. It’s a more poetic and romantic one.

Silk

Natacha started drawing on paper at a young age, but silk arrived rapidly. She took lessons in a workshop she loved attending. Painting on this precious material soon became natural to the little girl.Azov silkDiscover the Azov silk

The very origin of silk fascinates her. “ Can you picture the minute silk worm on his blackberry bush...” she enjoys saying. The mystery of this clothe, the manufacturing of this precious fabric kept secret in China for thousands of years, the adventure of the Silk Route... Fantastic stories that she enjoys so much.
