“ Natacha Couvelaire is one of the artists one rarely hears about, if only because their versatility makes it harder to describe their work. ”

“ Couvelaire’s distinctive characteristic within seemingly endless diversity is precisely that abstractionist perception of the physical world that comes to her as naturally as figuration did to earlier generations. ”

“ The urge to draw already possessed her at age 6. By the time she was 10, she had her first substantial contribution to an art show held at the Maison de la Culture in Nevers. Two years’ training at the atelier des Arts Decoratifs in her early teens, and four years at the Ecole Superieure des Arts Modernes from which she graduated in 1978 with a good grounding in graphic design and other disciplines, have not altered her elegant, slightly diffident manner. ”

To those who love long walks on the sand along the beach, it may happen, once seated on a rock, a board, a bench, to experience all sorts of questionnings and independances, even to appreciate the extreme mobility of strange hopes.

The ocean, the sea-gulls, a frail cloud, offer successive brios. Thinking becomes dreaming. All sorts of images like candles. As soon as they are born, a quiver scatters them. Unceasingly, start again new areas, new variations. Almost a wish to lose oneself among dreams, ideas, advents. Here are liveliness, tonalities, kaleidoscopic resources.

Winds, hurricanes, storms, dark skies becoming azure, the flowing to and fro of the tides, hollow waves soon calming down, tracks in the forest, stateliness of high trees, groves in autumn, glisening of lakes, flush in the dusk, mysterious hummings at dawn, all anxious to suggest generous scales. From all this, perhaps comes this aspect “cloudy” which appeals, charms, attracts.

The alternation of seasons, identical but nevertheless different, a thousand savours, eagernesses, abundances, a thousand pains given by nature, so many requests which allow to store up ample emotions, that they suggest, distil, organize. Then assert themselves godfathers of bright impressions, beside necessary harmonies, sparkling spaces of connivence of complicity, accompanied by light camaïeux, by chromatic constructions, sweet, hearty, soothing.

Then can express itself the ease, the elegance of these mental evocations perceived in open air, uplifted face, eyes closed, the mind free to feast. Suddenly are joined evanescent quiverings of the imagenary.
